SA-5 was the first orbital Saturn 1 flight, the first with a live S-IV stage. The S-IV mounted 6 RL-10 oxygen/hydrogen engines. The launch occurred on Cape Canaveral launch complex 37B, on January 29, 1964. The second stage entered orbit as the largest ever at that time, making around 12,000 orbits before the orbit decayed.
